So I know that this trend has been around for awhile now however I’m sure some of you are a little lost when it comes to colour! Here are my tips that I’ve learnt on colour blocking!
What is colour blocking? To colour block just means simply pairing contrasting colours against each other in one outfit!
“The rule of 2/3’s:” If you’re looking at a colour wheel and you take 3 colours (two side by side and one across,) connect them to create a triangle. This goes for any colour in the colour wheel but an example could be yellow, orange, and violet! I recommend keeping some neutrals in this outfit.
Try not to wear more than 3 bright colours at once.
If you are wearing a bright top and a bright bottom then keep accessories neutral (leopard print counts as a neutral!)
Incorporate neutrals. Include a neutral purse of shoe to bring everything together.
- Patterns: They can look great however be cautious because it could turn out messy looking.
Colour combinations: Complementary colours are two colours on opposite sides of the colour wheel that when put together in an outfit make each other appear brighter. They always work together when colour blocking. The complementary colour of a primary colour is the colour you get when you mix the other two primary colours together. Here’s an example if you’re completely lost: red and blue (primary colours) create purple (complementary colour) when mixed together so yellows complementary colour is purple.
Don’t be blind to tones: Try not to mix warm and cool tones together but remember, there are always exceptions.
Just starting out?
You can’t go wrong with colours in the same family or just adding pops of colour with your accessories.
Good luck! Love you girls 🙂
